Dear ANH Customers,
We’re just a week away from fall, which means like many of you, I’ve been enjoying the start to the college football season. With a recent grad and two other kids in college, it takes a bit of time to keep track of who to cheer for each Saturday. As a farm girl at heart, I’m also looking forward to this year’s harvest and seeing how the crop yields. Based on walking fields with my brother in Michigan last week, it looks like we could see some variability.
In the past month, you’ve received several communications from our NA team regarding the separation of our Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) business from the Group, enabling both dsm-firmenich and ANH to focus on their core strengths. Among those updates were notices that our US legal entity is changing to Animal Nutrition & Health, LLC starting October 1. Our Canada legal entity remains unchanged. If you have any questions about these changes, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your dsm-firmenich representative. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these transitions.
We are excited about the interest potential buyers are showing in our Animal Nutrition & Health business. dsm-firmenich is fully committed to taking the time needed to secure the best possible outcome for everyone involved. When a buyer is announced, all parties, including our employees and our customers, will hear the news simultaneously via a press release distributed by the dsm-firmenich team. While we await this announcement, we remain committed to our customers and our business.
In other news, tariffs and supply chain resilience remain top of mind for many of us. Our dsm-firmenich North America President Hugh Welsh has been working tirelessly in Washington D.C. to advocate for the animal nutrition industry. I’ve invited Hugh to share a few updates below. Take a look – Hugh’s updates are always worth a read.
I look forward to seeing many of you this fall and winter at industry events. Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and confidence in our people and products.
Kind Regards,
Kristin Bonham
Vice President, dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health, North America
When Kristin asked me to share a few updates with our Animal Nutrition & Health partners, I jumped at the chance. I always appreciate the opportunity to discuss the great work we’ve been doing to advocate for this industry.
Over the past several months, I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Washington D.C. Our team has had numerous conversations to reinforce the criticality of understanding vitamin sourcing and importantly where vitamins are being imported from. At dsm-firmenich, we take pride in knowing that Hy-D is the last domestically manufactured vitamin in the United States. We are also the only feed additive company that can supply key vitamins from Europe. With decades of investments in these production sites, we can instill confidence in our products and with our customers in both vitamin product sourcing and supply resilience.
Many discussions have also centered on tariffs. We recently saw the tariff deadlines on China and Mexico extended an additional 90 days while negotiations continue. Meanwhile tariffs on Canada sit at 35%. In July, tariff revenue in the US hit an astounding $29.5 billion, up 300%. If China tariffs come into effect, US tariff revenue could exceed $500 billion annually, more than the US collects from all corporate taxes. I think it’s safe to say tariffs are here to stay, at least in the immediate.
