As a young boy living in a major city, when it came to food things were simple: just go to the supermarket (or a fast food outlet, like most young kids did), and enjoy a wide selection of delicious ‘tucker’ as Aussies would say.
That all changed very quickly when moving to a small farm, in regional Australia, where we raised beef cattle, sheep, goats, and chickens – plentiful supply of protein! It was on the farm where I was first exposed to challenging farming conditions in Australia – many months, even years, without adequate rain to fill the dams and to grow feed for the animals. Hard decisions on many farms were made, whether to keep the animals, buy grain and hay, or sell them and make whatever money you could.
Fast track 20 years, times have changed, with many advances in farming practices, animal management, and in draught resistant crop genetics. However, more change is required. By 2050 there will be an estimated +70% increase in demand for animal-based food, significantly increasing the amount of pasture, cereals and grains that will need to be grown for animal feed, while having a reduction in arable land available and a limited opportunity to expand crop production sustainably. The challenge is right in front of us, it’s real, and it is something we can all be a part of and make that next and necessary change together, to ensure more efficient use of the finite natural resources we have.
The WE MAKE IT POSSIBLE positioning supports our ambition to be the world leader in animal nutrition & health, providing tangible and measurable solutions to our customers so together we can tackle the biggest challenges facing society & the animal protein industry.
If not us, who?
If not now, when?
So, let’s make it possible!
All the best,
