Bridging the gap with innovative solutions that improve food productivity and the agricultural value chain

Agriculture is one of the most important economic sectors in Vietnam. Vietnam’s strength in agriculture output is built upon a large rural base where farm and agri-business labor accounts for 70% of the workforce. Besides production to satisfy increasing domestic demand for the population of more than 97 million people, Vietnam is also playing its part on the agricultural import and export markets. However, Vietnamese farming sector in general, and animal husbandry in particular, face some significant challenges: fragmented value chain, high production cost, low productivity outputs, overuse of antibiotics. This presents a great opportunity for industry leaders to bridge the gap by bringing in innovative solutions that improve food productivity and move up the agricultural value chain.

Being the leader in animal husbandry industry for more than 20 years, the C.P Vietnam (CPV) – one of our strategic customers - has developed a new production model, creating effective supply chains for the Vietnamese agricultural sector. In 2019, CPV was recognized by the Vietnamese government as the top livestock producer in the country. They have effectively invested in a modern livestock breeding model, contributing to the development of the Vietnamese animal husbandry sector by accelerating the shift from small-scale production to an industrial livestock breeding model. As a part of CP Group and its ambition to be the “Kitchen of the World”, CPV has set a goal to export its processed poultry products from Vietnam to Asia and Europe in 2020. Hence, a closed-chain production complex to breed, raise, slaughter chickens and process final products were established in Binh Phuoc Province. The complex is considered to be the most modern chicken processing facility in Southeast Asia with the capacity of producing one million chicken per week.

Having the expertise and reputation as an active company in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living, together with our understanding of customer’ needs, we introduced Maxi-Chick solution – a patented combination of two scientifically proven DSM products (Hy•D® and Carophyll® Red) that complement each other to boost the productivity of the breeder flock –  to CPV leadership team. We had a very open and effective discussion between Dr Take - DSM Regional Layer Manager and Mr Sumeht Sharoenchatchai – Senior Vice President of CPV. The meeting helped CPV understand the benefits of Maxi-Chick in improving the performance of breeder flock through a number of health indicators such as hatchability, livability, flock fertility, DOC quality, semen quality. CPV was also impressed by the idea to provide consistent and high-quality vitamin premix for their breeders as they understood that the health of breeder flock plays a very important role in determining the quality of the chicks and eggs in the later stage. As a result, CPV has made the decision to use Vitamin Premix with Maxi-Chick solution from DSM for their flock!
