Graduated in polymer science with an engineering background, I can still recall my strong anxiety when I decided to be a field sales manager in the AgroSciences business as my first job 12 years ago, knowing nothing about the plants, limited sales skills and in home office, away from colleagues. But one thing was clearly strong in my heart, which was the strong passion for AgroSciences.
Growing in the beautiful village in Yangzhou, a 2,500 year old city, 300 kilometers away from Shanghai, my whole childhood wonderful time was spent with nature, swimming in a clean river, playing with frogs, crabs and dogs. My family planted vegetables on a small piece of land, a typical self-sustaining Chinese model, using the waste from pig and layer farms as fertilizers where I also spent time. Grandma would only call my name (loudly!) when getting dark so I would go home for dinner: fresh eggs, tasty braised pork, summer chicken and river carp soup was all that a simple life demanded. These beautiful memories seeded in my heart drove my passion as an engineer into the AgroSciences industry, so not only to help feed a growing population, but creating the same wonderful childhood I had for next generations to come, with a sustainable approach.
Joining DSM in 2019 and as the specialty business line director for Greater China, I’m still living my passion, with the dream of creating wonderful childhoods and beautiful lives through our Animal Nutrition and Health solutions. I strongly believe each one of our 6 business drivers rooted on sustainability are a perfect fit for people’s growing demand for safe and high quality food, produced with a sustainable approach. For example, we keep telling our customer that VevoVitall are not only the most competitive solution for antibiotic free feed, but also can reduce 1/3 of the ammonia emissions. With HyD and its combined solutions we can significantly reduce the cracked eggs, increasing the conversion rate for feed together with our Enzyme solutions. Our team is planning a Sustainability Forum in November this year, aiming on leading and calling for action on sustainability the whole animal protein value chain players. As DSM we are leading the way and we are part of the solution! We can make it possible! And this is the right time for it. As a fast growing economy, China is entering the stage when millions of middle class people are really buying into the sustainability concept and willing to pay and demand for it.
