How does the SciTell™ Mycotoxin Prediction Service work?

The SciTell™ Mycotoxin Prediction Service combines advanced predictive modeling with global weather data, crop information, fungal biology, and one of the world’s largest mycotoxin occurrence datasets to generate reliable, evidence-based risk assessments.

These forecasts are built using an integrated set of scientific inputs, including:

  • Biochemical processes involved in mycotoxin production
  • Fungal species characteristics and lifecycle stages
  • Crop type, planting date, and growth stage
  • Hourly global weather data
  • Data from the dsm-firmenich World Mycotoxin Survey
  • Advanced statistical and mathematical modeling approaches

Together, these elements are continuously refined using ongoing surveillance data from the dsm-firmenich World Mycotoxin Survey, ensuring that the service reflects the latest global field conditions and scientific understanding.

By combining these inputs, the service delivers up-to-date, actionable risk insights that help stakeholders make informed decisions around sourcing, quality control, crop management, and targeted feed testing strategies.

Your benefits in the field

The SciTell™ Mycotoxin Prediction Service assesses the relative risk of elevated mycotoxin levels in fields across major crop-producing regions worldwide. It covers key mycotoxins such as deoxynivalenol and zearalenone in corn and wheat, as well as aflatoxins and fumonisins in corn.

By turning scientific data into actionable foresight, the service helps crop producers, buyers, and feed manufacturers make better decisions on sourcing, quality control, crop management, and targeted feed testing.

  • Target field scouting more effectively
Identify regions and fields with elevated risk of fungal infection, enabling earlier and more focused scouting for crops where mycotoxin development is more likely.
  • Improve agronomic risk management
Support the optimization of good agricultural practices such as crop rotation, fertilization, and cultivation strategies to help reduce the likelihood of mycotoxin contamination.
  • Optimize mycotoxin testing strategies
Guide decisions on when and how frequently to test wheat and corn, and which mycotoxins to prioritize, improving both efficiency and risk coverage.
  • Balance yield and quality decisions more effectively
Use risk forecasts to support decisions on harvest timing, segregation, and quality management, helping protect profitability.
  • Make more informed sourcing decisions for imported feed and raw materials
Assess regional risk when selecting supply sources and adjust testing intensity accordingly to better manage incoming material risk.

  • dsm-firmenich Mycotoxin Survey

The dsm-firmenich Mycotoxin Survey constitutes the longest running and most comprehensive data set on mycotoxin occurrence. The survey results provide insights on the incidence of the six major mycotoxins in the agricultural commodities used for livestock feed in order to identify the potential risk posed to livestock animal production.

  • dsm-firmenich World Mycotoxin Survey 2025

The dsm-firmenich World Mycotoxin Survey is part of our technical services. We offer mycotoxin analysis to our customers to help to identify mycotoxin risk in their raw commodities and final feeds. The biggest part of our survey data comes from routine analyses and is a joint effort with clients globally to collect over 20 000 samples/year.
