dsm-firmenich breaks ground of new Taste, Texture and Health headquarters and application facility in the Netherlands

Delft (Netherlands), November 1, 2023

dsm-firmenich, the leading innovator in nutrition, health, and beauty, today starts the construction of its new headquarters and application labs for Taste, Texture & Health (TTH), at the Biotech Campus Delft, the Netherlands. The new, state-of-the-art building will replace the current offices and facilities of TTH in Delft and will feature modern, collaborative office spaces, as well as leading-edge facilities for food application development such as an advanced kitchen, a sensory room, a cheese dairy, a bakery, and a brewery. The building will be home to ~500 dsm-firmenich employees who will be working in the new office from summer 2025.

The ASR Dutch Science Park Fund will become owner of the building. This purchase is part of the previously agreed collaboration to further develop the Biotech Campus Delft.

Patrick Niels, President Taste, Texture & Health at dsm-firmenich said: “This new facility will help us achieve our ambition to enable our customers to create even more innovative food and beverage products that are delicious, nutritious, and sustainable. Building on more than 150 years of successful food innovation and an integral part of our connected network of global business and locations, our new state-of-the-art facility will be a bustling place where passion meets expertise. An inspiring place to bring progress to life, together with our customers, partners, knowledge institutes and talented scientists.’’

Marja van Bijsterveldt, mayor of Delft: "The city is proud of the beautiful knowledge ecosystem Biotech Campus Delft. The Taste, Texture and Health division with both a headquarters, an R&D lab, application labs and production in the Yeast Factory is a great example for other locations in the Netherlands: the whole chain from business, research, development, application, and production all together in one location. The start of construction of the new building also marks a visible step in dsm-firmenich's collaboration with a.s.r on the further development of the Biotech Campus Delft. We are happy to collaborate to fully embed this development in the city.”

The new, sustainable headquarters for Taste, Texture & Health are designed to better support customers in developing their portfolio of sustainable, healthy, tasty, and nutritious food products. The application facility will feature some of the latest technologies to further push the boundaries in plant-based alternatives to fish, meat and dairy products, sugar substitutes, and lactose-free products. In addition, the building houses a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen to work together with customers on new products and a sensory room where tasting panels will taste ingredients and finished products and where researchers can scientifically validate the findings.

The new building will be a great place to work where employees can connect, meet-up and work together in a healthy office environment, with for example team spaces, creativity rooms and flexible work desks. The positive effect that the building will have on the health and well-being of the people who work there will be confirmed by the Well Platinum certificate. The building will be energy-efficient and will meet the highest sustainability standard, BREEAM Outstanding, across the built environment lifecycle, from new construction to in-use. BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for projects, infrastructure, and buildings.
