As we begin a new year, I find myself thinking about the nature of progress. It’s rarely a straight line. Instead, it’s a dynamic process of learning, adapting, and occasionally, rediscovering what truly matters. The past year was a powerful teacher, revealing lessons in resilience and innovation that have sharpened our focus. Now, we’re channeling that energy into a clear, ambitious vision for the year ahead.
2025 was a year of pivotal moments one where we navigated significant operational shifts and responded to a rapidly changing world. It was a year that tested our agility and reinforced our purpose. As we look forward, our mission isn't just about reflecting on where we've been. It's about taking those insights and building a bolder future—one where we deepen our partnerships, advance our technology, and deepen our commitment to bring progress to life.
What 2025 Taught Us
Last year, we made it our mission to build resilience in order to thrive in any version of the market. As global markets pushed and pulled us in new directions, we learned that success comes from navigating these moments with intent.
Here are a few of the key lessons that I believe are shaping our strategy for the years to come:
- Proximity is the new global: The demand for regional self-sufficiency is no longer a quiet murmur; it's a clear mandate. Partners want supply chains that are short, secure, and predictable. Our strategy must reflect this reality. If it doesn't, we pivot and make sure it's top of mind and reflected in our plans as we move forward.
- Complexity demands a specialist: The easy problems have been solved. The world's evolving medical challenges require intricate, specialized solutions. We found that our greatest value lies in tackling the complex manufacturing hurdles others can't—or won't—take on.
- Partnership begins at inception: The most impactful collaborations start early. By engaging with innovators at the very beginning of their journey, we can help de-risk their path from concept to commercial scale, building a stronger foundation for shared success.
- Regenerative medicine is NOW: The transition toward regenerative therapies isn't a distant horizon; it's happening right now. Our role is to be a key enabler of this shift, providing the foundational medical-grade biomaterials and reliable expertise that can help bring revolutionary devices or solutions to market.
Our Strategic Priorities for 2026
What's next for us? Our journey forward has to be intentional if we're going to continue to navigate the headwinds and tailwinds of a global market while bringing meaningful solutions and expertise to our partners. To do this, we focus on core priorities such as:
- Strengthening our regional footprint: For Biomedical, it means developing and further implementing our "in-region, for-region" strategy. We do this by enhancing our local manufacturing capabilities to provide partners with greater supply chain security when possible, applying our in-region expertise, and developing stronger relationships with partners in the region.
- Mastering complexity with our Specialized Biomaterials Manufacturing solutions: Developing and leveraging our Specialized Biomaterials Manufacturing (SBM) solutions will continue to be a priority for us as we drive awareness of this offering. Our focus? Being the go-to partner for the toughest challenges and offering customized processes that can deliver on precise specifications or solve customer needs.
- Championing the regenerative revolution: We know there is an active shift in and toward regenerative medicine. Our goal is to be a part of that revolution by continuing to expand our portfolio of advanced medical-grade biomaterials while providing the collaborative support needed to turn groundbreaking science into viable customer solutions.
- Innovating through the integration framework: The future of medical devices and healthcare starts today. For us at Biomedical, that means building, developing, and implementing a strategy that focuses on not only the needs of today, but the global ones of tomorrow. To do that, we embed the principles of infection, inflammation, and integration, as well as drug delivery, into our product development and application strategies. This framework serves as a compass as we strive to create innovative medical-grade biomaterials and solutions across clinical applications that not only perform a function to solve the global health issues of today and tomorrow, but ensure our solutions work in harmony with the body.
- Forge deeper, lifecycle partnerships: We will continue to strengthen and move beyond transactional relationships to build true lifecycle partnerships. Our goal is to create repeat customers who see us as an indispensable part of their success. Collaboration of this type is crucial. Long-term, these partnerships can lead to sustained success, increased trust, and the ability to tackle challenges with greater resilience.
- Invest in the future pipeline: Building out our global technologies and solutions will be necessary to scale our business in order to better support our partners in their future endeavors while addressing trends in healthcare across the globe. While this is a long-term strategy, it is essential for identifying early-stage wins, continuously building collaborative relationships, and ensuring a robust pipeline of projects and products for years to come.
- Prioritize sustainability: While sustainability may not yet be a universal priority, we are witnessing a global shift toward its significance in business decision-making. Companies and consumers alike are increasingly focused on eco-conscious practices and products, making sustainability a key driver of innovation. A prime example of our leadership in this space is our Ulteeva Purity™ line, which is already setting new standards by addressing critical issues such as the removal of PFAS from products. By staying ahead of the curve, we are not only contributing to a healthier planet but also positioning ourselves as a trusted leader in sustainable solutions.
Building What’s Next, Together
The future of biomedical won’t be built in silos. It will be born from the dynamic interplay of bold ideas, deep expertise, and trusted collaboration. The challenges we face-from shifting market dynamics to the intricacies of regenerative medicine are too big for any single organization to solve alone.
Our vision for 2026 is rooted in partnership. We are building a global structure designed for collaboration, with global hubs ready to support different regions.
We are honing our capabilities to solve the toughest manufacturing problems, so our partners can focus on innovating devices or solutions that will help address better patient outcomes and durability in surgical performance.
And we are committed to being a partner you can rely on from the very first spark of an idea through every stage of its lifecycle.
Whether a startup with a groundbreaking concept, a university research lab pushing the boundaries of science or an established medical device leader your vision for improving patient outcomes is our inspiration.
Let’s bring progress to life, together.
