NEW CONGRESSIONAL LAW:

dsm-firmenich advocacy advancing Sun Care Regulatory Reform in the U.S.

We did it! We are beyond excited to share some incredible news: our Safer Under The Sun initiative in Washington D.C. and sustained congressional advocacy have delivered results. On November 10, 2025, The Senate passed H.R. 5371, a major law that modernizes the OTC drug monograph system and transforms Sunscreen Regulation for the first time in decades.

dsm-firmenich, in partnership with Personal Care Products Council, recently testified before Congress urging modernized sunscreen standards to fight America’s fastest-growing cancer—Skin Cancer

 The testimony highlighted the slow FDA approval process, limited access to safe global UV filters, and proposed reforms under OMFU 2.0* to drive Sunscreen Innovation.

* Over-the-Counter Monograph Federal Uniformity.

New Law Impact On New Sunscreens?:
  • Creates a faster, science-driven pathway for introducing new UV filters.
  • Enables innovative formulations with improved aesthetics and inclusivity for all skin types.
  • Reduces development costs and timelines through alternative testing strategies.
  • Positions U.S. regulation closer to global standards, fostering international harmonization.
    At dsm-firmenich we are proud to contribute with ongoing advocacy and leadership in advancing Sunscreen Innovation and Regulatory Reform in the U.S. ⭐.
