dsm-firmenich, leading innovators in nutrition, health, and beauty, today announced the opening of NextGen Itatiba, a fully dedicated pet nutrition premix facility located in Itatiba, São Paulo, Brazil. Developed in collaboration with Globalfood, the facility is focused on the production of vitamin and mineral premixes for domestic cats and dogs, and will serve as dsm-firmenich’s primary manufacturing and supply hub for pet nutrition in South America.

The inauguration marks dsm-firmenich’s latest investment in its growing global network of dedicated pet food premix facilities, following the recent openings of its European and North American facilities in Haag, Austria, and Tonganoxie, KS, USA respectively. Now with three connected dedicated pet food production sites, dsm-firmenich is uniquely positioned to shape the future of pet nutrition and deliver exceptional service to its partners across Europe, North and South America.

Next generation premix excellence, built by and for the pet nutrition experts of South America

NextGen Itatiba is located approximately 100 kilometers from São Paulo city, benefiting from access to key infrastructure and distribution networks which enables improved response to pet food brands across South America. The facility is operated by Globalfood, a long-established partner of dsm-firmenich with over 30 years of food technology and ingredient expertise. Under the agreement, Globalfood will act as a dedicated toll manufacturer, while dsm-firmenich retains full responsibility for formulation, raw material sourcing, quality control and product release.

Victor Hasserodt, General Manager at Globalfood states, “We are immensely excited to expand our successful partnership with dsm-firmenich as it brings its world-class pet nutrition solutions closer to customers in Brazil, South America and beyond. As part of our certified food ingredients campus, NextGen Itatiba benefits from well-established sustainability infrastructure including solar energy generation, water reuse systems and reforestation initiatives. With the combination of dsm-firmenich’s category-leading innovation focus and our responsible manufacturing expertise, we expect NextGen Itatiba to deliver incredible successes for pet food brands across South America.”

Built to food-grade certification standards with no production for other animal species onsite, NextGen Itatiba is designed to ensure pet nutrition is never in competition for capacity with commercial feed. In terms of production capability, the facility is equipped to blend virtually any dry powder ingredient, allowing manufacturers to tailor recipes to individual brands, their target markets, and the specific nutritional requirements of the pets they serve.

Investing in better for the world's furry friends

NextGen Itatiba is the latest addition to dsm-firmenich's growing global network of dedicated pet nutrition facilities, each designed to deliver food-grade, species-specific premix production in their respective regions. Its opening ensures that South American pet food manufacturers can access the same level of dedicated expertise available to dsm-firmenich customers in Europe and North America.

“This new facility opening forms part of a coordinated, long-term strategic commitment to pet nutrition as a priority growth category, backed by world-class formulation science and a global innovation pipeline,” comments Francisco Fienga, President, Brazil at dsm-firmenich.

“South America represents one of the fastest-growing markets for pet nutrition on the world stage. By establishing a dedicated facility at the heart of this high-growth market, dsm-firmenich is reinforcing its long-term commitment to this continent, and to the manufacturers, pet owners and - most importantly – the beloved pets that call it home”, adds Jose Fernandes, Vice President Regional Sales, Pet food, LAM at dsm-firmenich.
